FatFIRE calculator
Turn a high-spending lifestyle (the house, the travel, the private school) into the number you need and the years it takes to get there.
Your FatFIRE number
Saving $80,000 a year, you get there in 22 yr 8 mo, at about age 57.
Uses a real (after-inflation) return, so all figures are in today's dollars.
How this calculator works
FatFIRE uses the same math as FIRE with a bigger budget. The bars compare your target with a lean ($40k) and a middle ($80k) lifestyle, along with how long each takes at your savings rate.
Because the numbers are large, a slightly lower withdrawal rate (3–3.5%) is common.
FatFIRE number = yearly spending ÷ withdrawal rateCommon questions
How much is FatFIRE?
There is no official line. Many people use $100,000 or more in yearly spending, which means $2.5–3.3 million or more.
Is FatFIRE realistic?
It usually takes high income, business ownership or many years of steady investing. Small, regular buys are still how most of it gets built.
What about taxes in retirement?
Include the tax you expect to pay in your yearly spending figure.
FatDCA calculators are educational estimates, not investment, tax or legal advice. Results depend on the assumptions you enter, and past returns do not predict future returns.
