CAGR calculator
Enter a start value, an end value and the number of years to get the steady yearly growth rate that connects them.
Compound annual growth rate
Growing at a steady 9.60% a year turns $10,000 into $25,000 in 10 years.
How this calculator works
CAGR is the single, steady yearly rate that turns the starting value into the ending value over the period. It smooths out the ups and downs in between.
It is the fairest way to compare investments held for different lengths of time.
CAGR = (ending value ÷ starting value)^(1 ÷ years) − 1Common questions
Is CAGR the same as average return?
No. A simple average of yearly returns overstates growth when returns swing. CAGR reflects what actually happened to the money.
Can I use CAGR with monthly deposits?
Not directly; deposits arrive at different times. Our DCA calculator shows a money-weighted yearly return for regular buys instead.
What is a good CAGR?
The S&P 500 has delivered roughly 10% a year before inflation over very long periods, with long stretches well above and below that.
FatDCA calculators are educational estimates, not investment, tax or legal advice. Results depend on the assumptions you enter, and past returns do not predict future returns.
