Brokerage account
The account you buy and hold investments in.
A brokerage account is where your stocks, ETFs and funds live. You move money in from your bank, then use it to buy investments.
Taxable vs retirement accounts
A standard (taxable) brokerage account has no limits on how much you add or when you withdraw, but you pay tax on dividends and on gains when you sell. Retirement accounts such as IRAs give tax breaks in exchange for rules on contributions and withdrawals.
Choosing one
For steady small buys, look for no account minimum, no trading commissions, fractional shares and free recurring investments.
