Bitcoin DCA calculator
See what monthly Bitcoin or Ethereum buys since any month from 2015 would be worth today, compared with the same plan in the S&P 500, with every crash and recovery shown along the way.
Market data through Sep 2026, updated monthly. How we calculate$100 a month into Bitcoin since Jan 2020 is worth
You would have put in $8,100 over 81 monthly buys. At the worst point, around Dec 2022, the balance was down 62% from its high, and the plan kept buying. The same plan in the S&P 500 would be worth $14,288.
If you had invested the whole $8,100 in Jan 2020, it would be worth $77,881. Bitcoin monthly average of daily closing prices on Coinbase, in US dollars. Data through Sep 2026. One buy per month at that month's average price; no fees or taxes. Past returns do not predict future returns.
How this calculator works
Pick a coin, an amount and a start month. The calculator buys that coin every month at the month's average price, using daily closing prices from Coinbase, and values everything at the latest month.
The navy line is the same monthly plan in an S&P 500 index fund, so you can see what the extra risk paid, or cost.
It also shows the worst drop from a high that you would have lived through. Crypto has fallen more than 70% several times, and a monthly plan keeps buying through those falls.
Coins bought each month = amount ÷ that month's average price. Worth now = all coins × latest price.Common questions
Is it better to buy Bitcoin weekly or monthly?
Over long periods the result is almost the same. Weekly buys smooth the price a little more but can cost more in fees on apps that charge per purchase. This calculator uses monthly buys.
Why does the data start in 2015?
It uses Coinbase's public daily prices, which begin in 2015 for Bitcoin and 2016 for Ethereum. Earlier prices came from small exchanges with thin trading.
Does this include fees?
No. Many apps charge 0.5–1.5% per buy, sometimes more on small amounts. On a monthly plan that adds up, so it pays to compare apps.
Is Bitcoin DCA safe?
It removes the risk of buying everything at a peak, but not the risk of the asset itself. Only put in money you could leave alone through a 70% fall.
